Skopje

Skjope

Skopje is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Macedonia. With more than a quarter of the population of the country, it is the political, economic and academic centre. Skopje is the country’s cultural hub and has been for over a millennium. It is a modern city, but with deep roots in a rich history. It is internationally famous for being the birthplace of Mother Teresa, and she would be proud of the hospitable attitude that Skopje locals demonstrate towards visitors. Skopje has blossomed into a thriving, stimulating city to explore, defining itself as an exciting tourist destination.

Skopje was and is a home for many of the Macedonian writers, from late Dimitar Solev, Ante Popovski, Petre M. Andreevski and Slobodan Micković, to present Vlada Urošević, Tomislav Osmanli, Jovica Ivanovski, Venko Andonovski, and Igor Isakovski. The literary scene is rich and vivid, with frequent literary readings and promotions.
